Churning out fresh, new social media posts for multiple social channels every day can be time-consuming and exhausting. But what if you could create multiple social media posts from just one single piece of content? That’s where repurposing comes in. By repurposing content for social media marketing, you can:
Save massive amounts of time
Create content for multiple social channels
Leverage opportunities to get more views or traffic to your content
Keep your social channels active when you have big gaps between new content
To demonstrate the power of repurposing, let’s walk through how you can take one piece of content to create multiple valuable social media posts. We’ll use this Fiddlehead “Make Your Own Content Strategy - A Template” blog post as an example.
Create quote posts
This works especially well for a piece of content in the form of a video, podcast, or interview. Scan through your content to find 1-3 impactful sentences and share them as a quote on your social channels. You can share the quotes as simple tweets or even as text graphics for the more visual social channels, like Instagram.
2. Share a poll
Polls are a great way to boost engagement and understand your audience’s opinions. Share a Twitter or LinkedIn poll related to the topic of your piece of content. People love easy ways to share their personal opinions, so if you’re able to pick out a hot topic of contention from your content, you can easily create an industry-relevant discussion with your audience that boosts engagement.
3. Summarize content into text graphics
This option allows you to use multiple photos in a single post by creating text graphics. If you have a long-form piece of content, you can use text graphics to summarize each section of your piece, provide a step-by-step guide, or break down a complex concept. These types of graphics work well as Instagram carousels or LinkedIn PDFs that your audience can swipe through. You can even create a call to action on the last graphic to drive people to visit the full content.
4. Create a Twitter thread
Similar to the above example, Twitter threads allow you to share a message in multiple tweets when you need more than 280 characters. You can break down your piece of content into a thread that walks your audience through a concept or process. This works especially well if there’s any part of your content that includes steps or lists. In this example, we used the points from the blog post to share a Twitter thread on how to create a content strategy.
5. Share a quick tip
Is there an insightful tip, trick, or hack that you can pull from your piece of content? Post it as a quick tip on your social channels to create bite-sized, shareable content. You can even include a graphic or GIF with your post that helps to illustrate it. A popular trend right now that works perfectly for repurposing content across multiple channels is to post a tweet and then share a screenshot of the tweet as an Instagram post. In this example, we simply pulled a graphic from the blog post and shared it as a quick tip.
6. Create a GIF
GIFs are a visual way to show your brand’s personality or explain a process. For example, if your piece of content mentions a tool or technical steps, you can create a how-to GIF showing a recording of you performing the task on your screen to share along with the social post. In the example below, we created a GIF to showcase a feature of one of our favorite tools for organizing content that was referenced in the blog post.
Repurposing content is all about working smarter, not harder, in order to maximize the value of your content. When you start to look at all the ways to slice and dice a piece of content, you can easily come up with numerous social media post ideas.
